DG Synchronization with Solar: Enhance Your Rooftop Solar Power System

When grid power is unavailable, the DG can serve as a reliable reference power source for your on-grid solar power plant. This innovative PV DG synchronization solution is compatible with all major brands of grid-tie solar inverters, ensuring flexibility and ease of implementation.

With our DG PV synchronization, it’s important to ensure that the connected load (kW) remains lower than the power generated by the on-grid solar power plant to ensure safe operation. However, if the solar power plant generates excess power, it may flow back to the DG, potentially causing damage. To mitigate this risk, a DG PV controller, also known as a Zero Export Device, is required for proper solar DG synchronization.

What is a DG PV Controller?

A DG PV controller is a specialized device that safeguards your diesel generator from surplus power generated by the PV plant. Acting as a Zero Export Device, the DG PV controller empowers solar system owners and operators to control the amount of solar power exported to the DG.

By adjusting the set point of grid-tie inverters, the DG PV controller effectively limits the energy generated by the on-grid solar system. Its built-in power analyzer measures the total power at the point where the DG is electrically coupled to the load, comparing it with the set point of the DG PV controller.

When the load on the DG exceeds the set point, the DG PV controller ramps up the solar power generation. Conversely, if the load on the DG falls below the set point, the DG PV controller reduces the solar power output. This intelligent control mechanism ensures that the DG is consistently loaded at a minimum of 30% of its rated capacity, preventing any negative effects caused by prolonged operation at low loads.

Synchronization of Solar Plant with Grid Power and DG Power

Our PV solar power plants can seamlessly synchronize with both grid power and DG power. Regardless of the make of your grid-tie solar inverter, it can be utilized to achieve synchronization with the grid and DG generator. To protect the DG from surplus power generated by the solar power plant, the installation of a DG PV controller is essential when power generation exceeds the power required.

Solar Grid DG Management System

The DG PV controller, also known as a Zero Export Device, can also function as an efficient solar grid DG management system. Unlike standalone monitoring systems provided by inverter manufacturers, our DG PV controller features an integrated RMA (data logger). This allows solar power plant owners to monitor the performance of their system in conjunction with the grid and DG loading, providing valuable insights and facilitating efficient management.

Here's an example to give you an idea of the potential fuel savings with a DG PV system during grid-off periods:

Let’s consider a scenario where a commercial facility has a 100 kW solar PV system installed along with a 200 kW diesel generator (DG) as a backup power source. The facility’s average daily load is 150 kW.

During grid-off periods, such as power outages, the solar PV system becomes the primary source of electricity. Assuming favorable weather conditions with ample sunlight, the solar PV system can generate approximately 80 kW of power per hour.

In this scenario, when the load demand is at its peak (150 kW), the solar PV system can meet 80 kW, while the remaining 70 kW will be supplied by the DG. With the solar PV system reducing the load demand, the DG will only need to operate at a 70 kW capacity instead of its full 200 kW capacity.
